Introduction to programming

Course Objective

This course aims to help students develop familiarity with computer programming. It will help students feel justifiably confident of their ability to write small programs that allow them to accomplish useful goals.
There are no prerequisites for this course. It is designed to help middle school students, age 11-14 years, develop interest in computer programming. The Python programming language, selected for this programming course, is easy to learn, lightweight and runs on Windows, Linux and Apple machines.

  • 1 Introduction
  • 2 Calculations and Variables.
  • 3 Strings, lists, list comprehensions.
  • 4 Asking questions with "if" and "else".
  • 5 Defining functions.
  • 6 Tuples, dictionaries, common Python mistakes.
  • 7 Loops.
  • 8 How to Use Classes and Objects.
  • 9 Turtle Graphics.
  • 10 Using tkinter for better graphics.
  • 11 Your first game project.
